Frequently Asked Questions

What makeup products do you use?

This is a great question to ask any makeup artist you’re considering booking! I use only quality, professional, high definition and photographically safe cosmetic products to achieve a modern and long lasting finish.

I choose to use the brands mentioned below in my makeup kit and am constantly replenishing and investing in new products to give you the best results.

These brands suit even the most sensitive of skin.  If you have any concerns with allergies relating to products, please contact me to see how I can help.

I love and use natural, organic and low-tox products in my own personal makeup bag daily, but don’t use these in my makeup kit for clients as they aren’t designed to perform well on a teary wedding day, in photography situations or withstand heat, sweat nor are they waterproof to the level I need them to be.

For an important event like your wedding, I feel that making an exception to your usual preference for natural products is the only way to ensure your makeup is amazing and stays that way until the end of the day.

The products I hand pick for my kit are highly respected in the beauty industry both by celebrity makeup artists and celebrities alike.

You may not have heard of these brands however be assured they are well known in my industry as brands that consistently out perform others used in the commercial mainstream market.

I no longer use many popular brands because they are not cruelty-free

My makeup artist kit is proudly cruelty-free and also vegan friendly!

Many brands claim to be cruelty-free but still sell their products in mainland China which by law means they are agreeing to test their products on animals in order to sell there, which to me totally removes their ability to call themselves a cruelty-free range, right?

As much as I like some of these so called “cruelty-free” brand’s products I choose to support the real cruelty-free brands who refuse to sell in China.

If cruelty free products and banning animal testing is important to you please read my blog post about cruelty-free makeup brands to see how you can make better choices when purchasing products.

I also pride my kit on being as low waste and eco-friendly as possible. I recycle all plastic cosmetic packaging through TerraCycle, soft plastics, and wrappers through Red Cycle, and I also choose to purchase biodegradable bamboo disposables for lip and mascara wands rather than cheaper plastic versions. I also purchase palette-friendly cosmetic products to minimize waste. My garbage bin liners are even compostable!

Do you travel to us?

Yes! I provide mobile services for weddings and am available to travel to all areas of the Sunshine Coast, some areas of Brisbane and beyond. Minimum booking numbers apply for on location services. Studio appointments in Nambour are also available pending availability.

Only one setup is provided for on location services so have all those who are having makeup services meet me at this location.

I service clients in Noosa, Maleny, Montville, Flaxton, Caloundra, Nambour, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Coolum, Yandina, Eumundi, and more. Brisbane & Destinations considered on request.

Do you do airbrush makeup?

No, I don’t offer airbrush makeup because I much prefer the finish, look and effect of traditional makeup application.

If you love the work in my portfolio then you’ll love traditional makeup application!

You can read more on my blog about why I choose traditional application over airbrush makeup

Will my makeup last all day?

Yes, by avoiding using certain products before your makeup application and a few minor touch-ups professional makeup can last all day. We’ll work together to get the best wear from your makeup.

Great skin is the foundation to achieving long lasting makeup but if you have any skin concerns, I’ll address them with the right skin prep and the correct products. As a bride, you will likely have the time to work on getting your skin in its best shape before your wedding by using the right products and treatments in the lead up.

Having said that, I use advanced techniques and professional water-resistant and often waterproof products to ensure your makeup lasts through any tears, sweat and humidity!

Have you done makeup on my skin type and skin tone before?

I’ve done makeup on pretty much every skin type, tone, age and condition in my 20+ years experience as a makeup artist.

Having worked and lived in Toronto, Canada for 7 years I worked with many ethnicities such as African American, Indian and Asian and continue to do so when they sit in my chair.

I treat every face as unique and have the products and know-how to help you look your best!

Should I get facials before my event?

Always keep skin treatments to a minimum in the weeks before your event.

I’d suggest focusing on a long term skin care routine as early as possible rather than a couple of facials close to your event.

Spend as much as your budget allows on getting your skin hydrated, smooth and clear. Specialised treatments like microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, laser, peels, etc. are great investments if you can make them.

  • Yes, to an extent. Blemishes are often raised in texture which will still be noticeable even when covered with foundation. I can help reduce redness and discolouration but I can’t remove bumps, texture or pitting in the skin.

  • Yes! If you have a tattoo that needs covering you can email me photos so I can see what would be involved and give you an idea of pricing to provide this extra service. Please note proper tattoo coverage can take as long as a full face of makeup.

Also keep in mind while I try to provide transfer proof coverage this isn’t always possible depending on where the tattoo is located. For instance, tattoos that will come into contact with your dress or your guest’s clothing may transfer when hugging each other.

  • I can do makeup for anyone who would like my services on your wedding day. Generally I do the bride, maid of honour, bridesmaids and mother of the bride and/or groom. However with smaller parties I’ve done aunts, future in-laws, and even guests. My maximum for services is generally about 6-8 people depending on the time you need to be ready by.

  • Yes of course! I work with a lot of clients from outside of the Sunshine Coast area including interstate and overseas. As the Sunshine Coast is a destination wedding location this is very common.

We can do everything easily via email or phone. I have a simple and easy online booking process to keep things easy and simple for you.

  • No this is not necessary. Most of my brides choose to book me via email based on reviewing my work, reading reviews and having a sense that we’re a good fit for each other given my style and theirs. We will meet in person when we do your makeup trial closer to the wedding day.

  • Yes, generally I do have a minimum for wedding bookings for peak seasons and weekends. Reach out via my contact page to check availability so I can let you know what my current minimum is and if/how I can help.

  • Your wedding date is held with a contract and booking fee payment. The sooner you have your wedding date set, the better your likelihood is of getting all your favourite wedding suppliers on board.

I personally book out 12-18 months in advance these days and I take a limited amount of weddings per year.

Once you’ve secured your date and venue you should book the rest of your suppliers quickly.

  • Yes definitely! However keep in mind availability can be tricky to line up with so many schedules involved such as yours, the photographers and mine. Saturdays-Mondays are unavailable for these types of appointments due to my wedding schedule.

  • Trials are done at my home studio in Nambour daytime hours Tuesdays-Fridays pending availability around my wedding bookings. You might like to do your trial on a day when you have plans to go out for dinner to make use of your makeup. However, keep in mind you may not want your fiance to see your makeup to keep this a special surprise!

In-studio appointments are by appointment only and generally my availability is Tuesday-Fridays but I may be able to accommodate depending on my schedule - so reach out.

  • Makeup trials typically take 1.25-1.5 hours and include a personalised consultation and application of 1 makeup look and a minor variation of that look. If a completely different style/look is desired then you’d need to rebook for a second trial.

I’d love to see things like your dress, flower choices, bridal party outfits and jewellery to be able to plan for a look to suit you. Inspiration pics of makeup styles you like/don’t like are great when kept to minimum - a few with the same look/feel is plenty.

  • The purpose of a makeup trial is so that you, the bride, can meet with me to plan and apply a makeup look that you’ll love for your wedding day.

A trial isn’t to trial if you like an artist’s work before booking them because you really should be researching and booking with an artist whose makeup style is most like how you hope to look on your wedding day. This ultimately avoids frustration, wasted time and money while ensuring you find the perfect artist for you.

After doing makeup for 25 years, I require a makeup trial for all of my weddings as I know this creates the best results!

A makeup trial avoids delays on your wedding day as we’ll both know what we’re doing, and you’ll be feeling relaxed and confident about how your makeup will turn out. Having one less thing to worry about on your wedding day is always a good thing!

  • I recommend doing your trial in the 2-3 months prior to your wedding. This is when you're most clear about where you're going with your styling, it's a similar season to your wedding, and it's before you get too busy with final preparations

  • I like to schedule 45 minutes per person. I also allow a little extra time at the end of services for a quick touch-up on those who need it. For example a party of 4 people would take 3.25 hours to complete.

  • I provide a makeup schedule in the lead up to your day so you know how my services will go in terms of timing. If you would like to use my timeline to implement into your master run sheet feel free!

  • For touch-ups, I recommend purchasing your lip colour, a pressed powder and blotting papers from me. I can ensure these products are safe for photography and won’t interfere with the products I’ve used on you.. While everyone tells me my makeup wears amazingly, it’s best to be prepared for the unexpected ensuring your look lasts from morning to night.
